Why everyone is crazy about the movie “Everything, everywhere and at the same time”

A wacky, mischievous and upbeat melodramatic blockbuster directed by Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan starring the beautiful Michelle Yeoh in the lead role (more precisely, in a whole host of leads!) has become the triumphant new Oscar winner – the “Everything , everywhere and at the same time” was featured in 11 nominations and won 7 darling figures. We tell what this film is about and why it is so popular with viewers and critics.

Scheinert and Kwan (often referred to simply as “Daniela’s directorial duo”) are notorious movie hooligans. They became famous thanks to the film “Swiss Army Man” with Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe – a completely different story about the friendship of two castaways, one of whom is … a corpse.

Their next joint work turned out to be no less surreal, although the main characters in it noticeably increased.

At the center of the plot is a motley Chinese family. They have lived in the United States for a long time, have their own business and, it seems, have completely assimilated, but that has not made it easy for them. Mother Evelyn (with Michelle Yeoh) is literally torn between reality, tradition and commitment. And it is this insane congestion familiar to every modern person that triggers a series of very strange events.

For Evelyn, an ordinary hectic day begins: in the evening, she must organize a dinner in honor of the Chinese New Year for the delight of her father who has come from China, and before that, take care of a disgruntled customer, get rid of her tedious and insisting on an “important conversation” husband, reason with her daughter, and most importantly – to convince a very unpleasant tax bureaucrat, Deirdre, to double-check the return and not bankrupt Evelyn’s laundry .

But everything goes completely wrong – in the middle of a tax husband, Evelyn Waymond stops flattering and turns into a determined man who tells the woman that she is the only hope of the multiverse, who is threatened by the most dangerous creature with a stupid name. by Job Tupac.

And to all Evelyn’s troubles, one more is added – to save everything that exists. Well, that’s a trifle for a working mother!

And Evelyn goes in search of Joba Tupac in a spooky world where there are many lives replacing each other in a kaleidoscope. And at every step, she answers one of the questions she’s been asked at least once – what if she and her husband were still in love with each other like children? What if she became a legendary movie actress? What if people had sausages instead of fingers? At the same time, crack down on Jobu Tupac’s henchmen.

Waymond of the Multiverse explains that Evelyn has an infinite number of doubles and teaches her how to jump from one world to another. Jumping up, she borrows the skills of “parallel Evelyn”. After all, she herself has nothing to brag about – it turns out that “our” Evelyn is the most useless of all. She lived a worthless life and learned nothing… Will she be able to cope with the task at least with the help of borrowed superpowers, or will she remain a pitiful loser who cannot not even put a rude bureaucrat in his place?

The film consists of three parts, which are called, as you might guess, “Everything”, “Everywhere” and “At once”. It seems to blend every genre of cinema out there, seasoned with absolutely insane special effects and jokes so bold and sharp that even cynics laugh after 15 minutes of screen time.

But the main thing is a picture about the family and about the choices that we make every day in favor of the well-being of our loved ones (even if they are really unbearable). Evelyn is torn between a conservative father who has bullied her since childhood and a wayward daughter who seems to care about everything her mother holds so dear. And somewhere between them – a feeble-minded husband, dreaming of a divorce. The story is not at all fantastic, but the most everyday, but the heroine who lives it must literally turn the world upside down to get to the bottom of events and understand that the most destructive thing in life is the emptiness of the soul. ‘indifference. And everything else can be managed (even the tax return).

Thus, the “directing duo of Daniela”, having used everything modern cinema is capable of, manages to touch many hearts with a very simple message: if you are more attentive and kind to each other, even in the day the darkest turns into a miracle. . Do not believe? Watch a movie.
