It was through this situation that Patricia Linares44 years old, student of biomedicine at Unisagrado, in Bauru, SP.
Patrícia has been the object of prejudice, in this case ageism, or age discrimination. In a video recorded by three students in the same class, which has more than 3 million views on the Internet, the young women appear to offend Patrícia.
The girl who records the video says: “Guys, Quiz of the Day: How to unsubscribe a classmate?”. To his right, a colleague completes: “Bro, he’s 40 now. He should have been retired”. “Truly”confirm the third. “Guys, 40 years old can no longer go to university. I have this opinion”, continues the director of the video. One of them goes so far as to say that Patrícia doesn’t even know what Google is.
Hostile 44-year-old college student gets support from classmates
Despite the degrading video and the mark left by the three young women on Patrícia, her other biomedical colleagues, moved by the situation, gathered to pay their respects. Gifts, such as flowers, letters and chocolates, were handed out for the 44-year-old student.
In an interview with G1, one of the students, Giulia Fuganholi21 years old, spoke about the tribute. “Everything happened very quickly, but at the time we had already decided that we would talk to her and give her all the necessary support. Our goal was to welcome the student”he said.
“We learn a lot from her and that’s how we want her to feel, because she’s capable and age has nothing to do with it, it’s never too late to chase your dreams […] When we paid our respects, she was surprised. She said she was very upset by everything that had happened, but at the same time, she felt very welcome with the countless messages of love she received from all over the world.”celebrated Julia.
Patricia is in her freshman year of college. She entered Unisagrado on 27 February. Her niece was one of the people who publicly defended her aunt after the video went viral. The relative said that Patrícia always had the dream of studying, but never – or, until then – the opportunity. She was finally able to enroll in the course she had always wanted: biomedicine.

Also in an interview with G1, one of the three students appearing in the controversial video expressed regret. “It has never been said that older people cannot acquire a degree, as I do not have that thought. It was an imprudent and unfortunate statement that has taken on proportions we did not imagine”he said.
At first, the video would be shared privately on Instagram Stories, under the “Best Friends” option. It turns out that one of the people who participated in this group saved the post and openly shared it on social media when it went viral.
