OR
erythritol sweetener hit the market with a million promises! Common zero glycemic index AND no calories, erythritol appeared on supermarket shelves as the product that would replace the traditional sweetener! But
Is the sweetener erythritol really healthier? Contradicting what we already knew, the journal Nature Medice has developed studies that indicate an association between the constant use of the sweetener erythritol and a
increased risk of damage to the cardiovascular system
. However, cardiologist Dr. Nicolle Queiroz explains that the study was conducted with people who already had some type of heart or blood vessel alteration, and not just healthy people. Therefore, this study
does not collect enough evidence
define a direct relationship between sweetener use and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, the doctor points out that “cardiovascular diseases manifest themselves in a multifactorial way, from a history of disease in the family, which increases personal risk; and also a case of obesity which in itself increases the risk of heart attacks, even if the tests are normal”, he explains. In this sense, the sweetener erythritol remains an ally for people with insulin resistance, diabetes and also for those who follows slimming diets, due to its low glycemic and caloric levels. But for those who want to replace the sweetener, it is possible to opt for natural options, such as
Honey
. While this option is a bit higher in calories, honey offers several health benefits! Including, how about taking advantage of the momentum and making a delicious recipe for strawberry jam sweetened with honey? Check out the recipe below and include this tasty ingredient in your breakfast.
