Sleep and lack of mood? Ice cream, red meat could be to blame

Inappropriate eating habits can lead to disease

You are not the same as before and you feel a lack of energy even in funny moments. Sleep is interrupted and he wakes up already tired, with fatigue. Food is also compromised and you end up eating quick snacks due to the hectic routine. Did you know that eating ultra-processed foods often can be bad for your health?

Raquel Teixeira, professor of nutrition, explains that incorrect habits can cause immediate symptoms or long-term impacts on the body, ranging from simple discomfort to more serious problems such as the onset of chronic diseases (obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, blood pressure hypertension, degenerative diseases, among others).

According to the specialist, the big villains are ultra-processed foods. Want to know which ones? We list:

  • Ice-cream;
  • sweets and candies;
  • instant desserts and mixes for desserts, soups, pastas and toppings;
  • Alcohol-free drinks;
  • Red and industrialized meats.

Fast food is also a problem. According to the doctor, they are linked to diseases such as bowel cancer and inflammation, stomach problems, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. “This happens because of the large amount of additives, sugar, sodium, trans fats, additives (preservatives and colors) added to these products.”

“Diseases don’t appear overnight. If the person spends years consuming excessive amounts of products with a high concentration of sugar, sodium, among other formulations, you will most likely see negative results in your body in the following years”, Raquel Teixeira points out.

Natália Cavalcante, who is also a nutritionist, points out that Brazil is experiencing high exposure to processed, ultra-processed and industrialized foods. According to the specialist, this ends up generating a serious problem of functional malnutrition, which we know as “hidden hunger”. “Today people eat wrong, which can lead to overweight and obesity, and also malnourished, because they don’t have access to adequate nutrients for the proper functioning of the body,” she warns.

You have to lead by example!

If we, who are in the adult stage, have to worry about food, with children this work must be done twice as much. One topic that has gained attention in recent years is the introduction of foods.

Do you want your child to eat well? “We have a great challenge to promote healthy food practices for children, who are constantly bombarded with information about industrialized products,” contextualizes Natália.

The expert indicates that trying to bet on minimally processed natural foods, having variety in the purchase of vegetables, whole grains, among others, can be a good way out. The nutritionist lists other advice: “Take the children to the supermarket, explain the importance of each food, the importance of the diversity of colors in the dishes, integrate the children in the preparation of the food”.
