The young woman hospitalized after smelling pepper shows an evolution with physiotherapy

The young woman’s mother informed G1 that she can now sit up during physiotherapy, which is done four times a day. Adriana Medeiros she also said her daughter was able to eat yogurt, her first food since she started tube feeding.

“Thais is already able to keep her back still while sitting. Today we leave her like that for a while and evolve more every day, until our girl is 100%. It’s a long journey, but we are willing to take every step with her”, wrote the mother. Watch the video below.

The mother also said that these developments happened this Monday (03), during the physiotherapy sessions. Despite this, Adriana said she was aware that there is still a “long walk” for the girl’s recovery.

Thaís is expected to have his tracheostomy removed in the next few days; the device will be replaced by another metal one, according to his mother.

The young woman had a history of bronchitis and asthma, diagnosed after her first pregnancy; and she suffered from allergic crises, spending five days in the hospital with bacteria in her lungs.

The mother said the day of the accident “We were looking for the allergy test to find out which substances she is allergic to. At home she ate pepper, we ate it and she never had any problems. As she was already short of breath [… naquele dia…]sniffed the pepper and closed the glottis”.

Thais, a resident of Goiânia (GO), had a severe allergic attack when he smelled the aroma of a freshly opened jar containing canned goat pepper on February 17. She was at her boyfriend’s parents’ house, Matthew Oliveira, in the city of Anápolis, 55 kilometers from the capital of Goiás. As soon as she smelled the pepper, she started feeling sick right away. Mateus said it right after “he tried to suck in the air, but the air wouldn’t”. According to the doctors who treated her, Thais had severe bronchospasm.

The woman was hospitalized with no vital signs and had to be resuscitated. She was then taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) with cerebral edema.
