According to Abras (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets), the prices of Easter eggs have increased by 18% compared to last year. In parallel, Brazil wastes about 27 million tons of product a year. However, there are already companies looking for alternatives to this scenario.

Gooxxy, which promotes the replacement of food that would be discarded by industries, works with the circular economy of food and Easter is no exception. In 2022 alone, the company replaced 600,000 eggs that would have been rejected, were about to expire or were due to a manufacturing error. Expect 10% more replacement on the market this year.

Work against waste

Greentech works according to the needs of each sector or retailer, i.e. it carries out the replacement in places where consumption will be quicker and more practical, all thanks to the company’s data intelligence. At Easter last year, for example, the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais were the ones with the highest consumption of substituted eggs.

“Let’s say that the circular economy is the most effective way to fight waste and hunger in the country. A lot of good consumption foods, which could be perfectly consumed by the population, are thrown into the trash,” comments Vinícius Alves, CEO and founder of Gooxxy.

Furthermore, during the holiday season, waste increases even more, so it is important to be aware of not exceeding the production of food at lunch and dinner.

Greentech CEO separated 3 tips on how not to waste food during this time.

1. Plan the menu

“Planning is perhaps one of the most valuable tips for not having waste, so, alone or with family, plan your meals and what everyone will get, that way there will be no excess food,” says Alves.

2. Pay attention to storage

“Pay attention to the expiry dates of the products and also the way to store them, especially fruit and vegetables. When it comes to these items, buying excessive quantities can be a surefire way to waste. That is, during the Easter period, buy what you will need”.

3. Take meals home

Finally, even if it is food, debts to family, friends or even neighbors, this way the waste will be much less. Remember, sharing is always an option for foods we know we won’t consume right away.

“Our greatest job is to make the population aware of the fact that waste is a state of alert for the planet, therefore the more we, society and private organizations can help, the better it will be for the future of the population” concludes Alves.
