WHY DO MISCARRIAGES HAPPEN?

CONSEQUENCES OF ABORTION FOR WOMEN

More than physical consequences, an abortion has profound emotional consequences, especially if the pregnancy was planned. According to the doctor, the couple goes through a period of mourning and the woman faces the pain of losing a child. It is a period of anguish, fear and frustration which, if left untreated, can have repercussions on subsequent pregnancies.

From a physical point of view, some complications may occur: bleeding and infections are the most common. However, in general, women usually experience cramping and bleeding when they have a miscarriage, and physically leave this experience intact with their health.

“Generally it is an event that does not cause serious damage to the health of the woman, except in cases where there are complications – and generally these cases are more related to manipulation, induced abortion, with the risk of uterine perforation and haemorrhage”. she says.

In extreme cases, surgery to remove the uterus may be indicated, especially if the organ is perforated. Women who have to undergo curettage can also suffer from a specific complication, in which the vaginal walls “stick”, compromising their reproductive future. If there are no complications, two factors will determine how long a woman has to wait to get pregnant again: age and length of pregnancy. For a 40-year-old woman who has lost a baby in the first trimester, the waiting time may be as little as 3 months, as the mother’s age poses a greater risk of preventing pregnancy than the miscarriage itself. .
