According to the architect Patrícia Penna, from the office Patricia Penna Architecture & Design“it adds personality and coziness. By putting it together with a nice bedspread, interesting bedding and a blind or curtain, the room gains a new layer and stops fulfilling only a technical function of a bedroom, becoming a more pleasant environment. The headboard sets this space up and makes it cozier.”

Patricia explains that the headboard essentially has two functions: secure and protect the bed and the individual’s head, creating a screen between him and the wall; and the second function is aesthetics. However, it has some added benefits.

To the upholstered headboards increase the feeling of comfort, offering more curved lines around the bed. For those who like to read leaning against the bed or suffer from allergies, the architect’s advice is to choose a model that allows cleaning.

“If the resident likes to lean their back against the headboard to read, it’s nice to think of a zippered headboard that they can take off and wash, or opt for a durable material, like synthetic leather,” she explains.

How to choose the best headboard for your bedroom?

Project by Patricia Penna.

The architect’s advice is to consider it needs, tastes and available space.

“The best headboard is the one that best responds to the wishes of the resident. From this we need to understand the function that the headboard must perform, understand the context in which it is inserted, understand the limits of the material and the distance.

For example, in a small room, a thinner headboard, just with a foam to remove the hardness of the wall and a fabric, is enough to make the space cozier,” says Patrícia.
