Are your dreams confused? You don’t understand or can’t tell what you dreamed about? Or are you even ashamed of what you dream about? Don’t be discouraged, ashamed or scared, because dream language is metaphorical. In this article, I share tips for trying to understand your dreams.

For example: if dream that your teeth are falling out, doesn’t mean you’ll be toothless, literally. Self dream of a group of snakes, do not be afraid. You need to look up the meaning of symbols (such as teeth and leftovers) to figure out what your unconscious wants to tell you.

And here’s another tip: Dreams tend to reveal something about what we’re thinking, feeling, wishing, fearing, in short, experiencing. Always keep this reminder in mind. So pay attention to your dreams – write them down! – and search understand its symbology (read more here).

Tips for understanding your dreams

  1. Try to understand the function of a certain object. For example, if you dream that you are in a house. What does a house symbolize? A safe structure that hosts and protects us. It also indicates a place of intimacy where you share moments with those closest to you, such as family.
  2. If you dream of someone, write down the most extraordinary characteristics of his personality. How do you characterize it? What are the positive and negative aspects that you see in it? And then see if at the current stage of his life you need to develop the qualities he has and avoid acting in the negative way this person tends to act.
  3. Anyway, see each element of the dream (scene, person, context and object) metaphorically, asking oneself: what does this element represent and symbolize?
  4. A diary, for example, is a great tool for recording both dreams and what we experience.. From it we will be able to extract the meaning that will allow us to make wiser decisions, in line with our existential trajectory.
  5. Research the meanings of every scene, character, object and situation that make up our dreams. So after that try to put these pieces together and build a general context on the essential message that our unconscious is sending us.

Without contextualizing the dream with the doubts, anxieties, desires and everyday situations we are going through, it loses much of its usefulness. In other words, to find meaning in the dream message, we need to connect with what we are thinking, feeling, wishing and wanting.
