Singer and businesswoman Preta Gil is preparing to begin a new phase of her treatment for adenocarcinoma, cancer of the end of the intestine. She will start radiotherapy sessions, as you had already announced, along with oral chemotherapy.
This marks a shift in treatment for the artist who, last week, announced the early end of intravenous chemotherapy cycles. Excited, she shared the doctors’ decision to complete that step with her followers.
Intravenous chemotherapy versus oral chemotherapy
Oral chemotherapy is performed by administering drugs in pills, capsules or liquids, as explained by oncologist surgeon Wesley Pereira Andrade. Therefore, the advantage of this treatment lies in its convenience, as the patient does not have to travel to the hospital or clinic for the procedure.
That’s what happened to Preta Gil, who had been hospitalized with every round of intravenous (through the veins) chemotherapy. On the other hand, both methods have the same effects.
“Oral chemotherapy is an effective chemotherapy, so we can have different side effects, such as tiredness, weakness, nausea, diarrhea, lesions on the skin, palms and soles of the feet, which is called hand-foot syndrome, as well as weight loss and changes in taste”, underlines the doctor, doctor of oncology and member of the Brazilian Society of Oncological Surgery (SMCO), in an interview with Earth.
Andrade explains that it is a method indicated for the treatment of various types of cancer. It can be used exclusively or as a complement to intravenous chemotherapy, as opted by the artist’s medical team.
Preta Gil’s state of health
In announcing the news this Monday (1st), Preta also showed the support she has received from friends and family along this journey.
“A summary of the month of April, without a doubt the most difficult and challenging month of my life, the month I was reborn and given a second chance to have the privilege of enjoying life with its pains and delights!! !”, shared on social media.
Earlier this month, the artiste faced a condition of sepsis, causing her to stop her cancer treatment to take care of the infection. Already cured, she is once again fully focused on curing her adenocarcinoma.
