Covid pandemic: Brazil had 10% of official deaths from disease in the world; understand


The absolute number of fatalities is the second highest on the planet, although the country was the sixth with the highest number of cases.

The agency, however, has warned that the disease remains a “threat to global health” and has claimed one death every three minutes in the past week alone.

In absolute numbers, WHO counted 6,921,614 deaths from the disease through May 3, when it last updated the data panel. In the latest update from the Ministry of Health on April 26, Brazil had 701,494 victims of the disease. Values ​​may be underestimated. Scientists estimate, for example, that the total number of deaths worldwide is at least 20 million.

According to WHO data, Brazil was the second country that recorded the highest number of deaths from the disease (from the point of view of absolute numbers). In first place is the United States, with 1,124,063 deaths.

Cases

As for the number of confirmed infections, Brazil was responsible for around 5% of the notifications. Worldwide, the total was 765,222,932 cases. In Brazil, 37,449,418.

The country was sixth in the number of confirmed infections, behind the United States (103,266,404), China (99,248,443), India (44,952,996), France (38,930,489) and Germany (38,403,667).
