Kiss: Paul Stanley Retracts After Transphobia Accusations: ‘Words Weren’t Clear’

Kiss lead singer and guitarist Paul Stanley has criticized gender-affirming surgery

Paul Stanleyvocalist and guitarist of kiss, returned to Twitter to recant after controversial lines. The musician had criticized gender-affirming surgeries and declared that they are “confusing young children.”

The first declaration of Stanley even mentioned procedures for trans people as a dangerous fad: “Many children have no real sense of sexuality and are caught up in the fun of using pronouns and saying they identify. which is a struggle for those affected, turned into a sad and dangerous fashion.”

In the new note, published this Friday, 5, Stanley stated that he was misunderstood and that he supports people struggling with sexual identity, even in the face of hostility: “While my thoughts were clear, my words definitely weren’t.”

“Most importantly, I support those who struggle with sexual identity while dealing with constant hostility, as well as those whose path leads to reassignment surgery,” he continued.

“It’s hard to measure the conviction one must feel following these steps. A paragraph or two is too short to express all my thoughts, so I’ll save that for another time and place,” he added (via NME).

The member of Twisted Sister stated of Stanley’s note: “You know what? There was a period when I ‘felt beautiful’ too. I’m glad my parents didn’t jump to any conclusions.”

Suzanne Fordexecutive director of San Francisco Pridepublished an official note on the subject (via NME): “When we were notified about the supportive tweet from dee to the transphobic declaration of Paul Stanleywe were angry and heartbroken.”

“The message perpetuated in that tweet casts doubt on the ability of young trans people to identify their own gender. Mutually, we decided to go our separate ways, but I recognize that dee sees this as a teachable moment and a reminder that even allies need to be educated not to promote transphobia.”
