Star Wars fans hired a plane to fly over Disney studios with an unusual request: “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo”, after Adam Driver revealed that the studio canceled the project

A plane flew over Disney studios displaying the message: “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo” — a direct appeal to the company to resume the canceled project that would have the Ben Solo/Kylo Ren interpreter back in the role of the Skywalker heir.
The action was organized by fan Lianna Al Allaf, who supported the protest to draw the attention of Disney and Lucasfilm. “I hope this track shows executives how much Ben Solo’s character means to us“, she said. “We want them to know that audiences really want this movie.”
The script, co-written by Rebecca Blunt and Scott Z. Burnswould explore the character’s redemption after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker — a more intimate and melancholic approach, compared by Driver to the spirit of The Empire Strikes Back.
The Hunt for Ben Solo it would not be an epic of space battles, but a drama centered on the guilt, redemption and identity of the former villain. “We wanted to do something more contained, spend less, but with the same craftsmanship and human spirit as the original films.”, he explained Driver. “For me, The Empire Strikes Back is the standard — and Soderbergh is faithful to this type of cinema, ethical and without compromise.”
Second Driverthe project was well received by Kathleen Kennedy, Cary Beck and Dave Filoniwho praised the proposal. But when the script reached Disney executives, Bob Iger and Alan Bergmanthe idea was rejected. “They couldn’t understand how Ben Solo could be alive. And it ended there”, revealed the actor.
“I always wanted to do another Star Wars. He said he would come back in a second, if there was a good story and a good director. I loved that character”, said the actor, who also revealed that he and the director Steven Soderbergh (Presence) spent two years developing the film.
Driver lamented the cancellation, saying the public missed something special. “It was one of the most incredible itineraries I’ve ever participated in.”, he stated. Soderberghin turn, commented in an ironic tone: “I loved making the film in my head. I’m just sorry that the fans won’t be able to see it.”
Disney and Lucasfilm chose not to comment on the matter, but frustration among fans quickly grew, with hashtags like #SaveBenSolo and #TheHuntForBenSolo going viral on social media. Many see the veto as a new demonstration of corporate caution — the same type of decision that, according to them, has hampered the franchise in recent years.
