Oasis guitarist, vocalist and main songwriter remembers British music phenomenon who died young shortly after achieving stardom

Noel and Liam Gallagher have been in the press spotlight since the Oasis broke out at the beginning of the 1990s. Surrounded by success, but also by controversies, the two brothers felt firsthand that fame comes with bonuses and burdens.

Between fights, arguments, breakups and, more recently, rapprochement, the Gallagher brothers were closely followed by the media. Even when that was what they least wanted.

In Noel’s opinion, however, not every artist is prepared to deal with this scrutiny. According to the guitarist, vocalist and main composer of Oasisa talented British singer ended up being “torn apart” by fame.

The victim? Amy Winehousewho died in 2011 at the age of 27. Noel mentions that she was swallowed up by the whirlwind of success and paid with her own life for not having the necessary structure to withstand the pressure.

In a statement highlighted by Far Out Magazinethe eldest of the Gallagher brothers commented:

“It destroyed that girl. She couldn’t deal with it. Because she wasn’t the only songwriter, she depended on other people. She wrote, of course, but she co-wrote. Whereas I could always lock myself in a room, and it was just me and a guitar. Not even a damn tape recorder. Just me and a guitar. And as the storm raged outside, I always tried to get over it.”

Mick Jagger agrees with Noel Gallagher

Another British star, even longer-lived than Noel, has also made comments about Amy Winehouse. In 2007, Mick Jagger seemed to “predict” the singer’s tragic fate if she did not get rid of her addiction to alcohol and drugs.

The frontman of Rolling Stones told the newspaper at the time The Sun (via Igor Miranda website):

“Amy is a brilliant artist who makes fantastic music. She’s classy. But I’m worried she might die if she follows the path she’s taken.”

That same year, Amy was scheduled to open for the Stones during a tour, but had to give up the tour due to problems with drug addiction. Jagger regretted not being able to count on the singer, who praised:

“It would have been like a full circle for the Stones, as she is like some of those classic singers of old soul music who inspired us. Having a woman who sings like them in the contemporary world is a wonderful thing. If only she could resolve this situation…”

There wasn’t time. About four years later, Amy Winehouse passed away – on July 23, 2011, due to alcohol poisoning.
