With Luiza Mariani and a great cast, the film follows the struggle of a writer to have her voice recognized as an artist and woman
Cyclonefilm shown at the 49th São Paulo Film Festival, directed by Flavia Castro (I forget), and starring the actress Luiza Mariani (All Love Songs) as the title character, had its official trailer released by Muiraquitã Filmes.
The film is inspired by the story of Maria de Lourdes Castro Pontes, a talented playwright who, in São Paulo at the beginning of the 20th century, had her voice silenced – a narrative that, unfortunately, is not restricted to a time or a place. Find out more below:
What is it about?
In the plot, Daise (Mariani) is a worker who divides her time between working in a printing shop, where she earns a living, and her passion for dramaturgy. When she wins a scholarship to study theater in Paris, she soon discovers that the biggest obstacle to realizing her dreams is being born into a world where women don’t even own their own bodies.
Cyclone is freely inspired by the real story of the writer Maria de Lourdes Castro Pontes, known as Miss Cyclone, the only woman to participate in “O Perfeito Cozinheiro das Almas Deste Mundo”, a collective diary of the waiter kept by Oswald de Andrade, in the center of São Paulo in the 1910s. The film, however, reimagines this character from a contemporary, feminine and feminist perspective, thanks to the work of a team made up mostly of women.
The film is a personal project by Marianiwho played the protagonist in the theater and has been working to bring it to the big screen for 20 years. No wonder, in addition to starring in the film, she also signs the production alongside Joana Mariani and Eliane Ferreiraand collaborates on the script, written by Rita Piffer.
Who is in the cast?
The cast of Cyclone still has Eduardo Moscovis (She and I), Karine Teles (Benzinho), Luciana Paes (Symphony of the Necropolis), Magali Biff (Through the Window), Rogerio Brito (An Unforgettable Year – Spring) and Ricardo Teodoro (Baby).
When does it debut Cyclone in cinemas?
A Mar Filmes and Muiraquitã Filmes production, in co-production with VideoFilmes and Claro, Cyclone hits theaters on November 27th, distributed by Bretz Films. Watch the trailer:
