Accessing results and scheduling procedures present problems and the company promises a solution “as soon as possible”; network of laboratories was the target of a hacker invasion two years ago
The laboratory network system Fleury has been suffering from technical problems in recent days. Patients have complained of problems scheduling tests or accessing procedure results since at least Friday 5. In a statement, the company said on Saturday 6 that the unavailability was “normal”. It further stated that “at no point were services disrupted”. Two years ago, the group was the target of a hacker attackwhich also hurt their services at the time.
The current problem, patients report, hinders the scheduling of new tests, both by telephone and directly at the laboratories, and access to the results. Grupo Fleury also said that “the technology area is working and the whole system needs to be re-established as soon as possible”.
Complaints have increased on social networks and consumer protection sites. “Today I had an appointment hampered by the unavailability of the system to obtain the results of an examination. Disappointing! The doctor even reiterated that the problem had been present since the day before”, says one of the messages published on Reclame Aqui this Saturday.
Patients also complain about the company’s lack of agility in informing everyone of the problem. On the official Twitter profile, Grupo Fleury responded to complaints by asking users to call the company “in private”.
“Today, Saturday 06/05/2023, I had an exam scheduled in Fleury at 7:15 and I should arrive at the lab at 6:45?, wrote another patient on the Reclame Aqui portal. “When I got to the lab I couldn’t even enter”, he adds, informing that the attendant, still in the parking lot, had already warned of the unavailability of the system.
The hacker attack in 2021 put the sector at risk
In June 2021, the Fleury group fell victim to a hacker invasion in its Information Technology (IT) environment, which also resulted in the unavailability of much of its systems and operations. Patients also reported difficulty accessing results and scheduling tests at the time.
The crime then alert activated on the security of personal data and the risks associated with the healthcare sector in the midst of hacker activism, which has strengthened after the covid-19 pandemic. The sector is seen as a potential target because it deals with valuable information from users and, according to specialists, is not yet well prepared to face this challenge.
i arrive at @fleury_online to deliver that vase with “material” collected at home and this arrives: “we don’t have a system, there is no way to receive it without a medical request”. That request was already in Fleury’s hands and there was no solution! Wasted time, collection and humor!
