Professional has already performed in his homeland as Blue Note, Bistrô, San Francisco Bay and Numero and was responsible for the National Competition of the Rabo de Galo.
This Thursday morning (18) the death of bartender Derivan Ferreira de Souza, 68, was reported. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
The professional was one of the most experienced bartenders in Brazil, with more than forty years of career, responsible for the launch of 9 books (the latest being “Ultimate Bartender Book 2018”) and organizer of the National Rabo de Galo Competition.
Originally from Bahia, he has lived in São Paulo for over 50 years and has been working in the industry since 1973. He worked behind the counter at popular venues in the city of São Paulo, such as the extinct Bistrô, San Francisco Bay and Numero – eventually, he worked as bartender at the Blue Note, jazz bar located in the Conjunto Nacional.
In 2004, Derivan won the Bartender of the Year award from VEJA COMER & BEBER. “I come from a time when I took many people home. The boy drank and then had trouble finding a taxi. I took them home, it was normal. I also hosted some at the Hotel Jaraguá, where a friend worked, and they called their wives to let them know”, said in this interview.
