According to Dr. Ilana Marques, a pediatric dentist, normal hair forms every time we eat. «The way to eliminate it is by cleaning the tongue, which can be done using specific detergents for the tongue, called tongue scrapers. There are also specific tongue brushes and even tongue pastes. Tongue type also affects more or less coating buildup,” she explains.
What can cause white tongue?
However, white tongue can also indicate some health problem. “When the coating cannot be removed with a brush or a tongue scraper, there is a great possibility that the coating has fungus and is oral candidiasis,” points out the specialist.
If it is candidiasis, it could be a sign of low immunity and even other diseases that can lower immunity. This is the case, for example, with HIV and cancer, warns the pediatric dentist. Therefore, in this case, it is necessary to carry out a specific treatment in addition to cleaning.
Ilana adds that tongue coating causes very bad breath, damaging the interpersonal relationships of people suffering from the problem. “That’s why it’s so important to seek help if you can’t fix it with these tips alone,” she says.
