Mini goats and mini goats are animals of the caprine species, ruminant herbivores. Just like any other animal, animals like these need special care in their daily routine so that too much or too little care does not harm their health.

As they are very docile animals, they are often used as therapeutic animals, especially in the treatment of children with physical and mental disabilities, as an attraction in parks and farm holidays, since they get along very well with the little ones.

According to the veterinarian Camila Freitas, anyone who wants to adopt this species must keep in mind that they are extremely intelligent, curious, docile animals, with a lot of accumulated energy, therefore quite playful.

“It is recommended that they have an adequate space, where they can develop and spend all that energy,” says Camila, who is the coordinator of the Veterinary Medicine at the Braz Cubas University Center.

“You have to be careful because, being very curious, they can eat ‘a few little things’ and ingest anything. The same goes for ornamental plants, as many are toxic and, more often than not, fatal to these species,” warns the vet.

Mini goats for those who live in an apartment

For apartment dwellers, Camila says it’s important to take care of balconies, open windows, always keep well-reinforced protective screens, as well as avoiding very slippery floors, which can harm the health of these animals’ hulls or cause an injury.

The “story houses with large, spacious yards and farms are the perfect environment for raising goats and baby goats. And if the animal lives outdoors, it needs to have an environment where it can shelter and protect itself from the sun, rain, wind and cold”, adds the veterinary doctor Bruna Mamede, professor of the same course.

As for the cold, wind and rain, the cure is even more rigorous: these goats are predisposed to developing pneumonia.

How should ruminants be fed?

Mini goats are herbivorous animals, so they cannot be fed any type of animal protein, such as dog and cat food. Grass hay is widely used as a form of food. In addition to grass, feed based on corn and soy can be added, but only on the advice of the specialist veterinarian.

In the diet of the mini goat or mini goat, an essential nutrient for their development is mineral salt, which must be carefully included to supplement the goat’s diet without excluding any other nutrients.

The benefits are enormous, as it helps digestion, circulation and complete development of the animal. And when it comes to the hydration of these species, it’s crucial to always have clean, fresh water available.

Jokes for those who have these mini pets

Like any animal, these goats also need free time, above all to release the large amount of energy they have and to favor their development.

This is why Camila recommends walks when the temperatures are not extreme: very hot sun or exaggerated cold.

“The preference is for the walks to always take place in the morning before the sun gets too hot or in the afternoon after the sun goes down. Remembering that it is essential to always be careful with very low temperatures”, recommends Bruna Mamede.

How to take care of the health of these animals

In general, urban veterinary clinics do not treat goats and baby goats, as it is not just a veterinarian who does it: he must be a ruminant specialist. Therefore, when he thinks about adoption, Camila reminds that the health care of these animals should be carried out by qualified professionals who master the questions about these ruminants.

“Goats must always be dewormed and vaccinated so that they can walk safely and not contract or transmit any disease. Always reiterating caution in the possible ingestion of unknown or sharp objects thrown on the ground or interspersed with fresh grass, toxic plants or gravel. These animals eat everything in front of them,” informs Bruna.

Finally, Bruna Mamede reiterates the precautions adopted in having goats and mini goats as pets, which are excellent companions, capable of adapting very well to man and children.

“If you are thinking of buying one, seek out a specialized veterinarian to obtain information and become aware of the proper care this species needs so that it can have a light and healthy life,” he concludes.
