A couple who have been together for 40 years share the formula for success

Solange and Benedito Marques talked about marriage on “Namoro 2.0”, a special program by Jairo Bouer on Terra Você for Valentine’s Day

In an interview with “Namoro 2.0”, a special edition of the Jairo Bouer at Terra VocêSolange Vidica Marques da Rosa and Benedito Marques da Rosa, 61, spoke a little about the secret behind their long-lasting and happy marriage.

The couple, who have been together for 40 years, said the formula for them has been to “get away from the joke of possession,” respect individuality, and have complicity.

“We lived in that conflict, I wanted to change him, he wanted to change me, this doesn’t happen. Even marrying young, I always had my freedom, and so did he, as a married couple. I’ve never been possessive, it would never have worked for us,” says Solange.

The wife still remembered their weekends. While Benedito played soccer or drank a beer with his friends, she went out with his friends. Furthermore, since she has always liked to analyze her relationships, when she met with her friends she absorbed the topics that suited her and she discarded the attitudes that did not suit her.

“He has never let me down. I’ve always been the first in her life. Benedito was always there, but during the day we had that moment where everyone could do as they pleased,” explains Solange.

Benedict completed. “Respect for individuality and a lot of complicity throughout life has helped us get to this point. An important thing [durar] 40 years old, may not be for everyone, but for us it was, it’s about escaping the trap of possession. She is not my possession, I am not her possession. Evidently, in our case, it is knowing how to use freedom with respect. In short, it was the formula we found to get here”.
