Filmed in the late 90s, starring Bruce Willis and a young Haley Joel Osment, The Sixth Sense is considered the most famous film by its director, the perplexing M. Night Shyamalan.

After two first feature films that went completely unnoticed, the Indian American filmmaker really experienced a real triumph around the world with this memorable horror thriller in which a child psychologist tries to help a young boy who claims to see the dead.

Aided by Shyamalan’s inventive staging and the combined talents of his lead actors, The Sixth Sense was notable above all for its spirited final moments and its stunning final twist. Now so famous that it’s an integral part of popular culture, this ending left thousands of viewers gasping in 1999.

However, if you’ve never seen The Sixth Sense before, I suggest you stop reading and come back when you discover the film.

At the end of the featurette, we can see Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) returning home after completing a mission with young Cole. Thanks to the therapist, the boy actually learned to control his fear and help the ghosts instead of running away from them.

As advised by the boy, Malcolm tries to reconnect with his strangely distant wife by talking to her in bed. To his surprise, he then sees a small item fall from his wife’s hand: his own wedding ring, which he no longer wears on his finger.

Along with the character, the audience then realizes the unspeakable truth: since the opening day of the film, where he is shot by a former patient, Malcolm has been dead!

A revelation that explains why he always finds his wife sleeping in front of old wedding videos, why he doesn’t talk to her anymore, and above all, why the only person we can get him to talk to throughout the movie is young Cole (he can talk to the dead).

After reminding his wife that he loves her, Malcolm is now at peace and so his spirit can travel to the afterlife.

A precise and meticulous conclusion, the emotion of which is fueled by the relationship that the audience was able to develop with the character throughout the film, and which many absolutely did not see coming.
