Furnishing a house or an apartment is not an easy or cheap task. Also, many things have to be bought immediately, such as the refrigerator and washing machine. For those who find themselves in this situation and are looking for a less painful alternative for their pockets, used items are a great option.
A study by OLX underlines that it is possible to equip the house saving on average up to 48% on the purchase of second-hand furniture and appliances.
This calculation was carried out considering the purchase of all 11 items surveyed on the platform, considering the living room, bedroom and kitchen, and the average savings percentages for each one. The estimated prices correspond to the average for the first quarter of this year and vary between R$233 (televisions) and R$785 (wardrobes).

Kitchen
According to the OLX survey, the refrigerator it is the best-selling and most publicized kitchen product of the period, followed by the stove.
As for the average price of the most advertised kitchenware on the platform, the microwave recorded the lowest average price in the first quarter, costing 254 reais, a 54% saving compared to a new one. Among other products in the category, the refrigerator with the greatest savings stands out (63%).
Room
As for the room, Bed leading the TOP 3 most sold and advertised in the first three months of the year. A seasonal product, conditioning, is in second place in the category.
The bed has the lowest average price of the best performing products, standing at R＄439. air conditioning next to the leash of the bed, being 45% cheaper than new.
Stay
Tables are the best-selling and advertised product in the first quarter, followed by sofas and televisions.
When it comes to average price and economy, the televisions are leaders both in lower value, being for, on average, R$ 233, and in savings compared to a new one, representing almost 76.7%.
How to make a secure online purchase
- Answer all questions through the chat and official channels of the platforms, avoiding bringing the conversation to messaging apps, which are less controlled environments;
- Pay attention to the purchase completion phase and do not follow up if suspicious behavior is identified;
- Do not divulge your personal data or your mobile phone number;
- Be wary of prices or offers far below market;
- Check the platform for information about the seller, such as account time;
- OLX offers the Segura Segura service, through which it is possible to pay for a purchase through the platform, without having to make transfers to third parties. Once the payment is confirmed by OLX, the buyer receives a confirmation message directly in the chat of the ad;
- Always request the invoice for the item you are dealing with. In this way you are certain of the legitimacy of the origin of the product and, if it is still under warranty, you can access the official technical assistance;
- In case of purchase or delivery in person, choose public and busy places, such as squares, shopping centers or subway stations. And, if possible, always go with another adult;
- OLX has no partnerships with external delivery apps like Uber, Rappi, 99, Loggi, and the like. For sales and purchases with OLX Pay, deliveries work throughout Brazil via Correios;
- OLX never asks for confirmation or security codes. Whether it’s by phone, email, chat or messenger app. If you receive a contact from OLX requesting a code or password, report it on the platform;
- OLX does not send emails with attachments or links that redirect outside the platform. If you receive communications of this type, do not download any type of document and do not click on the links.
