Nutritionist’s answer on whether rice crackers are a practical option
“I like to recommend it to my patients for breakfast or for snacks in between. It doesn’t spoil easily and can be stored in strategic places, such as your bag or office drawer. Are you hungry for your afternoon snack? It’s in yours hand!” , answers the nutritionist partner of Fit Food Valentina Benghi Slaviero.
Furthermore, Valentina immediately adds that the rice cracker becomes a “snack” and that it can be combined with a source of protein or fat, with the aim of lowering the glycemic index to give more satiety.
«For example, rice biscuits with tuna pate, peanut butter, chestnut cream, scrambled eggs, tofu», underlines the professional, who even recommends two biscuits to be eaten throughout the day, but also warns that it can vary depending on the needs of a subject.
“For example, if a man wants hypertrophy, the portion will certainly be larger, possibly four biscuits plus a few little things. If someone wants to lose weight, I would recommend between one or two units”, explains Slaviero.
The other practicalities of the rice cracker
Those who exercise can eat this food pre-workout with peanut butter, banana puree, chia or coconut butter. “Those who want to kill their sweet tooth can eat it with sugar-free gelatin or 70% melted chocolate”, suggests the nutritionist.
At dinner, you can replace the bread with vegetable purees or appetizers, examples: paté, aged cheeses and olives. Finally, Valentina says this cookie is a great morning nausea option for pregnant women because two units right after waking up help a woman not feel sick in the morning.
