Olivia Rodrigo released this Friday (6/30) the special music video for “Vampire”, in which the singer experiences feelings of anger and even demonstrates frustration with an allegedly failed relationship.

In an interview with Billboard, the artist said that the song created with Daniel Nigro (one of the managers of the album “Sour”) represents common feelings, but that they are “difficult to express”.

“I think it’s just a song about feeling used, and all the anger and regret and heartbreak that comes with it. And I think it’s a common feeling whether you’re famous or not,” she said.

The song “Vampire” portrays an abusive relationship, where the young woman allegedly had an affair with an older man and was hounded by the press. Apparently, Olivia Rodrigo has turned her story into a dramatic pop-rock ballad.

“It was something that was really bubbling inside of me – it’s kind of an angry song, and I think I have a lot of trouble expressing feelings like anger and regret, those are especially hard to express.”

“I go to write songs to express those feelings that are not very comfortable to express in everyday life. So it was a very therapeutic experience to write this song,” Olivia assured.

New album

The song “Vampire” is part of the album “Guts”. The album is the successor of the acclaimed “Sour”, a phenomenon on digital platforms and a real hit among the young audience thanks to the pop song “Drivers License”.

Additionally, the video for “Vampire” was directed by Petra Collins who was also responsible for the videos for “Good 4 You” and “Brutal”, both released in 2021.

“Guts” suggests that Rodrigo will share his innermost thoughts and emotions in more vulnerable ways. The new album will be released on September 8 via Geffen Records.
