1. Blankets and blankets
Architect Juliana Barros recommends bringing blankets into the living room. “Knitted blankets or even fluffy blankets are super warm. Besides you only need them to cover you up on the sofa while watching a movie in the late afternoon or receiving friends who want to keep warm, it’s a super affordable option for those who want to have an apartmenta cozier home in the coldest time of the year,” she says.
2. Adequate lighting
Lighting plays a vital role in creating a welcoming atmosphere. According to the engineer Pedro Pugliese, of Help Reformas, yellow and orange lights, which are warm tones, have the power to provide a greater feeling of relaxation. In addition, they create a cozy atmosphere. and tranquility. White lights, on the other hand, normally recommended for environments such as the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room, can cause discomfort and even headaches.
3. Plants without the need for constant maintenance
For decoration, dried and dehydrated plants are the most recommended for decoration during the winter. “Because they don’t need constant maintenance, they’re great options for those who don’t have the time or knowledge to care for plants that usually require great attention in this weather. These plants are already dehydrated, so they don’t need to be watered, for example. The only care needed is that they are not exposed to the sun, as this causes them to lose their colours,” says landscape designer Rayra Lira.
The specialist recommends pampas grass, latania, Cortaderia and anthurium plants to make the place more welcoming and save money. Rayra recommends placing plants in pots that are in corners, such as near tables and dressers.
4. Set up a coffee corner
“A coffee corner is also a great option. Place your coffee pot inside a niche or on a shelf, either in the buffet you have at home or even on a sideboard. It’s a drink that brings people together, and then the feeling of intimacy happens. This idea is great for get-togethers with friends and family,” says Juliana.
5. Seal the cracks in the windows
Engineer Victor Henriques, also of Help Reformas, suggests using special masking tape to seal cracks in windows and doors, especially in bedrooms and living rooms. By applying these tapes, the heat accumulated during the day is prevented from escaping. “Many people end up choosing to buy portable heaters to deal with the cold, but using duct tape is a cheaper option, which doesn’t result in a excessive increase on the electricity bill,” he concludes.
