The dog that helped an autistic woman give birth

Belle, a Staffordshire bull terrier, is trained to help her master in times of anxiety and pain.

Belle has won the UK’s ‘Pet of the Year’ award after helping bring a baby into the world.

A Staffordshire bull terrier, he is an assistance dog, trained to help his owner, Amee, who suffers from autism and anxiety.

When she finds her tutor is stressed or in pain, Belle lays down next to her to give her the support she needs.

And when Amee went into labor, Belle was with her every step of the way.

She was allowed to go to the hospital’s maternity ward so she could be there to help her owner stay calm.

Belle is believed to be the first dog to be admitted to a whelping ward in the UK, which is a ward in a hospital where women are allowed to give birth.

The two-year-old dog was also with her owner in the ambulance and intensive care unit.

Amee’s midwife — a medical professional who helps people during pregnancy — suggested that Belle should be admitted to the ward after seeing how much she’s helped her owner.

Amee said that before Belle arrived, she “didn’t leave the house for months, not even to go shopping or to the doctor.”

“Service pets” are trained to help their owners in many different ways.

For example, people with low vision may have a guide dog to help them navigate and guide them. Or, if someone has a physical disability, a pet can be trained to help with tasks like putting clothes in the washing machine.

It was important to make sure Belle could handle the crowded ward and how she would react to her owner’s pain.

The hospital performed a risk assessment in which she was tested before being admitted to the ward. Has been approved.

Amee said hospital staff “were wiped out by the dog.”

The hospital’s infection control team implemented extra cleaning measures so that other patients were also safe in the hospital.

Amee is proud of Belle, who has won a national award for her work, hoping to change the sometimes negative perception of her race.

She added, “He’s given me something else to focus on when everything is happening around me. He’s a lovely, calm dog and deserves all the recognition.”
