Let’s face it: when it comes to chocolate, the quality of the ingredients makes the difference. The more expensive chocolates tend to be more careful in the choice and dosage of the cocoa, with a different preparation than the cheaper options. But after all, do you have any idea how much you would have to pay for a bar of these chocolates?
Ecuadorian chocolate shop To’ak Chocolate sells candy bars at unbelievable prices and bills itself as the “world’s most expensive chocolate” brand. Almost all of To’Ak’s chocolates are sold in 50 gram bars and, although the price varies according to the product, even the cheapest candy costs astronomical sums.
The brand’s most expensive candy bar costs US$490, about R$2,300. The “Masters Series Enriquestuardo” is a chocolate bar with caramel, nuts and honey, made with cocoa grown in Ecuador. The price is also linked to the candy packaging: a wooden box made by various Ecuadorian artists, described by the brand itself as a “luxury item”.
Initially, To’ak was an initiative to preserve Ecuadorian forests, but gradually it has become a pioneer in what they call “luxury dark chocolate.” On its website, the brand highlights its selection of cocoa based on harvest times and the “ultra-elegant” design of its boxes.
To’ak also sells cocoa powder, chocolate powder and, surprisingly, gift cards with pictures of Ecuadorian forests. Despite the luxury, the special cocoa and the design of the box, the unanswered question is: is it really worth paying 2,300 reais for a bar of chocolate?
