Pediatric orthopedic consultations with back pain complaints increased during social isolation
During the period of social isolation, our children have had to adapt to a new daily routine, thus being deprived of living with friends, practicing outdoor activities and being away from sport. This has led to an increase in hours of use of mobile phones and computers, both for entertainment and for school activities. The home environment had to be quickly adapted so that children and adolescents could continue their studies through online classes. Many of these environments, precisely because they are not designed for this purpose, end up causing bad posture.
How to protect your posture and avoid pain
Lack of physical activity, associated with incorrect postures during prolonged use of cell phones and computers, can lead to back pain. The child must keep the hips, torso, knees, ankles and elbows at approximately 90 degrees, keep the feet flat on the ground at all times, avoid bending the knees too much, keep the arms close to the body and the forearm fully supported on the table and chair must have lumbar support to accommodate them.

Avoid sitting for long periods of time, taking regular breaks for 5-10 minutes. Long periods using a laptop or cell phones lying face down on the floor, or with the neck severely flexed, can also cause pain. The number of pediatric orthopedic teleservices reporting back pain has increased significantly in recent months. We need to take care of the posture of the little ones now, so that they don’t suffer in the future! A super important tip is to always remind him that everything will be back to normal soon!
