To make something great, we have to start from the details.

The other day, reading and seeing a post on the video of William H. McRaven, retired admiral of the US Navy, in which he gave a lecture at the University of Texas, I realized how complex the topic he addressed was and how it provoked different reactions from the comments of many on the social network.
He comments: “If you want to change the world, start by making your bed. If you make your bed every morning, you’ll have done your first task of the day. It will give you a little sense of pride, which will encourage you to do one more task and then another, and by the end of the day, that first task done will have become another of many completed. Making the bed will also reinforce that the little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right.”
I see in this speech the depth of the admiral’s position in quoting a task that should be very simple for us to turn into an interrogation.
As a personal organizer, I know how important it is to make the bed when you wake up, start the day by organizing your home, your daily tasks, be they domestic or professional.
How to be effective in the smallest things
In addition to emphasizing this, it goes further by talking about the importance of being effective at doing small things so that we can achieve great things. One depends on the other.
How can you want to get to the presidency of a company, for example, if you don’t start from the beginning, as an intern, trainee, supervisor, coordinator, manager, etc., and develop a good job, even with experience in different companies? Oh yes, are we the president’s children? But if we don’t have a solid foundation of knowledge, understanding, perseverance, if we don’t know how to deal with people, the company won’t follow us.
The same happens if we want to organize our life and we don’t know how to apply the techniques to achieve it. They are stages and processes that have a beginning, a middle and an end.
I go further, how can we become better people if we don’t have empathy, altruism, love for others, understanding that we are unique, different people, that we have different lives and moments, but that we are all human beings thirsty for respect?
To make something great, we have to start from the details. To be “great” one must have “great” and generous attitudes.
