A 23-year-old man has been in a motorcycle accident and is waiting on a stretcher in the corridor of the Franco da Rocha State Hospital for an operation to place plates and pins
With his leg broken in four places, after suffering a motorcycle accident on the morning of Friday 11th cajamarA 23-year-old girl had been waiting 60 hours for surgery in public hospitals in the São Paulo metropolitan region.
Doctors said he needed urgent surgery to place plates and pins, but as of 7pm this Sunday, 13th, scanner operator Yaritza Melo Silva had been fasting for more than ten hours, on a gurney, in the hospital corridor. state hospital of Franco da Rocha, without foreseeing that she would be operated on. The reason would be the overcrowding of the hospital.
Yaritza was riding her motorbike home from work at around 7am on Friday when she was hit by a car. Rescued, she was taken to the Regional Hospital of Cajamar, where multiple fractures were found in the tibia and fibula, leg bones.
She was medicated and recommended for urgent surgery. Since there were no vacancies, the patient entered the list of the Central for the regulation of offers of health services (Cross) of the State Department of Health.
The mother, Katia Najara Santos Melo, who accompanied her daughter, said she spent all Friday and Saturday feeling a lot of pain from the first visits. “The place is purple and she continues to suffer a lot. The nurses come to give sedatives, but the pain doesn’t go away. Our fear is that the more time passes, the worse the situation will get. We are afraid that she will end up losing the leg,” he said.
After contacting the report with the Department of Health of the State of São Paulo, the patient was transferred, this Sunday morning, to the Franco da Rocha State Hospital, also in the metropolitan region. However, the situation has not improved, according to the mother.
“The doctor examined her and said she will have to wait, because the hospital is overcrowded. The nurses come, remove and put the splint on her, which only increases the pain. Now they have given her morphine to ‘pass out ‘” he said.
According to her there were other patients on stretchers in the corridor, in a chaotic situation. “There were a lot of people. It’s very difficult to see how we are treated,” she complained.
A doctor at the hospital, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak for an interview, said this and other metropolitan area hospitals were overcrowded. “The victims of accidents, shootings and emergencies arrive all the time. What we have done is to prioritize cases with a risk of death. Those who are out of this condition end up having to wait,” he said.
After the report of the mother, who is with her daughter in the Franco da Rocha hospital, the report has contacted the State Department of Health again and is awaiting a response.
