Can you imagine paying more than 10,000 reais in one meal? Japanese cuisine doesn’t usually come cheap, but one restaurant in Osaka has pushed all boundaries with its new combination. Sushi Kirimon entered the Guinness Book of Records with an omakase that costs over 350,000 yen – equal to about 11,000 reais
“Kiwami Omakase” is a combination with 20 pieces of sushi. Composed mostly of niguiri, the meal also serves two sashimi and two maki, a kind of sliced sushi roll. All of the sushi is laid out on a board and gold leaf is added over the food to give it the ‘finishing touch’.
The difference, however, is in the selection of ingredients. All inputs are fresh and include different facets of Japanese cuisine. Beluga caviar, minnow gizzards, sei whale tail meat, tiger prawns and sea eel are some of the delicacies used in the sushi combo.

Good sushi obviously requires quality rice. The rice used in niguiri comes from the Akita region in the northwest of the country. A blend of Akita rice and Tsuyahime rice from the Yamagata region is used in the maki.
Anyone who thinks that the ingredients are exclusively Japanese is wrong. Whale meat, for example, comes from the North Atlantic Ocean. The combination also includes matsutake mushrooms, from China, and Italian black truffle.
The previous record belonged to Filipino chef Angelito Araneta Jr., who made a combo with five niguiri adorned with gold and diamonds. Made in 2010, the dish cost just under 10,000 reais.
