The architect provides suggestions for creating welcoming environments for residents and guests

Many families, or residents living alone, appreciate the joy of having guests at home. In fact, it is always a pleasure to set aside time to socialize – especially with the people closest to our lives – and immortalize moments with conversations and special meals. However, to have residences that exude such a warm profile, some details need to be thought of right away during construction and interior architecture design.

According to the architect Cristiane Schiavoni, head of the studio that bears her name, the ideal for the residence of people with this profile is to have versatile, functional and integrated environments, with places to welcome guests, such as seatstables, armchairs and sofas.

Furthermore, it is also worth giving preference to good lighting and a good sound structure to make this reception even more pleasant. “The impressions conveyed by the furniture, as well as the sensations it offers, are essential to leave that unforgettable mark on those we receive,” he underlines.

How to define the project of the house

For those still in the process of building their own home, according to the expert, the first step is to be aware of your needs and preferences before starting to plan any project. “It is very important to know what style we want. For example, there are those who love to barbecue, others prefer to prepare more elaborate recipes, for large dinners or lunches, and there are those who like to prepare drinks. It is on the basis of these references that we started developing the project,” he explains.

In addition to the dining table, the sofa with a movable backrest offers comfort and interaction.

Integrated environments for more space and fluidity

After these definitions, the next step is to think about the structure of the room layout and the arrangement of the furniture. Both in a house and in a apartmentthe versatility of the integrated spaces collaborates in the mission of providing fluidity to the social area.

In this context Cristiane Schiavoni indicates a living room connected to the home theater or with the balcony, as well as a kitchen adjacent to these rooms. “It is no news to anyone that the kitchen has come out of the shadows of a renegade and hidden room to show itself as the heart of the home that also welcomes,” says the architect.

In addition to making the residence more spacious, the environment integration the social area also contributes with various decorative proposals, always with the aim of welcoming people without conveying the perception of discomfort.

“It is essential that the furniture is distributed in positions that convey this message of comfort. I don’t think it’s nice when two sofas are positioned with their backs towards each other. The idea is always to add”, guides Cristiane .

Opt for versatile furniture

Beyond the furniture with a more expressive style, the architect advises residents to consider opting for furniture that resolves situations and is easily relocatable. This is the case of stools, benches and poufs that act as seats for those who have arrived home.

“The nice thing is to reconcile an extra occupation when they don’t have that assignment. Finding them under a sideboard, a shelf or even using them as a coffee table makes these pieces of furniture useful in the routine of the house, and not just in specific situations,” he says the professionist.

Details that make the difference

Anything that involves an environment can interfere with the way we welcome people and the experience they have in that space. Details that may seem insignificant, such as lighting, sound, smells, the arrangement of objects or even a picture on the wall, convey complementary messages.

“I always advise my clients not to neglect a lighting project suitable for these scenarios. An audio and video system, a large screen or a TV are very welcome to broadcast a good show, a movie or even a football match”, exemplifies the architect.

The ambient temperature also requires attention

Does the environment intended for fraternization receive a lot of sun, wind or rain? This can define what the visitor experience will be like in that space, especially if it is an outdoor area. “When we build a barbecue area facing north or west, we have to keep in mind that it will receive sunlight throughout the day. Therefore, we will have to include a facade to protect residents and visitors from this heat or even choose another place to create the environment.” , advises Cristiane.

Materials that guarantee beauty and practicality

The choice of materials it is very private and depends on the needs and tastes of the residents. However, attributes such as convenience for cleaning, daily maintenance and safety should guide these definitions. In terms of finish, materials such as porcelain, glass and various stones, among others, register a low dirt absorption.

In the kitchen integrated with the service and dining area, a high table with stools and a hob was installed next to the stove.

Dining environment with guests

One way or another, meals always end up surrounding the act of receiving guests at home. For human beings, the act of eating is not limited to survival, but is an opportunity to promote great events.

“If combined with the union of loved ones, they can be the scene of memorable memories and moments of sharing”, underlines Cristiane. With this in mind, the receiving space must consider a diversity of articles to use – mainly around the table.

Guest room

Sometimes the landlord has guests who don’t stay for just a short time. Whether in an unexpected or planned circumstance, a room of guests are always welcome in the structure of the residence. “The goal here is to avoid improvisation, such as getting the guest out of bed or even improvising the setup for the visitor with a mattress on the living room floor or even offering the sofa,” explains the architect.

In his spare time, the guest room designed by architect Cristiane Schiavoni is used as a home office by the resident

The ideal is to have a room that guarantees privacy for those who stay there, as well as not interfering with family routine. “If possible, it would be interesting to have a separate bathroom and a bedroom which, outside of this proposal, could serve as a sleeping area home office“, he advises.

Receive over the years

It may not seem like it, but the act of receiving has changed over the years. The transformations that society has gone through and the changes in the way of life and human behavior have also changed the way guests are received at home.

The decision to include a futon in the living room instead of the traditional sofa was made to create a more relaxed atmosphere and accommodate more people.

The architect Cristiane Schiavoni observes that the habit of receiving has become more intimate and welcoming. “Architecture changes together with the social context that influences behavior and ways of living. The request for spaces to receive at home, by customers, has been happening gradually. I realize that a few years ago people considered receiving as something more formal, however, over the years, the visits have begun to become more intimate, by close friends and family”, underlines the specialist.
