Discover the decoration of the new swimming pool of the Copacabana Palace

Signed by Ivan Rezende, the project combines wood, striped fabric and colored cushions

The new swimming pool of the Copacabana Palace was inaugurated this month: the project has semi-Olympic dimensions and ample space for sunbathing. The new styling is part of the agenda of the Belmond group’s centenary celebrations and aims to elevate the experience offered to guests, integrating the look with the seafront.

Designed by the architect Carioca Ivan Rezende – who redesigned the acclaimed Copacabana Theater Palace in 2021 – the new decoration combines nostalgia of the past with a contemporary touch, through g wooden umbrellas with striped fabric, lining with tropical prints and trimming fringes, custom-made sunbeds and cushions embroidered in shades of green and orange.

Following the European summer trend and the concept of instagrammable pools, the elements have been carefully designed to enhance the beauty of the earthy tones of the sand and crystal clear waters, creating a warm and welcoming environment.

The project also included a detailed study of specific fabrics to ensure comfort and refinement, choosing materials that resist the tropical climate. A unique tropical foliage print was developed exclusively for the hotel. At the same time, the structure of the umbrellas has a more rounded and modern shape.

The Copa pool has hosted national and international celebrities, such as Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, Carmem Miranda, Rod Stewart and many more. In 1991, Princess Diana wanted to take a bath, but she didn’t want to be seen, so during the night, she asked for the lights to be turned off, but still she was clicked by the paparazzi. Janis Joplin, rock reference at the time, also took advantage of the iconic hotel pool, but this caused quite a stir, as she ended up completely naked and, as a result, she was asked to leave.
