One of the biggest transformations in plastic surgery is the recent Deep Plane Facelift technique, an innovation that has allowed deeper tissues, such as muscles, to be repositioned, producing more natural results.
And, thanks to constant developments in this area, it is now possible to perform the procedure via video, without cuts or scars in front of the ear, a technique known as Deep Plane Endoscopic.
“This is great news that we are bringing to Brazil. The incision is made in the temporal region, inside the hair area and, through it, the surgeon carries out a video-surgical displacement of the ligaments in a deep plane, which brings satisfactory and more natural results,” explains plastic surgeon Jair Maciel , coordinating member of the Face chapter of BAPS (Brazilian Association of Plastic Surgeons).
“The technique is recent, recommended for some cases, and eliminates the need for cuts or scars in front of the ear,” he adds.
How the procedure is performed
Deep-plane endoscopic video surgery can perform a deep-plane dissection of the entire facial region, from the incision area (on the scalp) to the jaw.
“These tissues are lifted and repositioned. Previously, facelift procedures could result in a stretched, artificial appearance. However, modern techniques focus on deeper approaches, repositioning the muscle layer and sparing some of the skin. Furthermore, surgeons also focus on restoring facial volumes, instead of simply stretching the skin,” emphasizes Jair Maciel.
This is a surgery recommended for the most limited and initial cases, according to the doctor. “Deep Plane Endoscopic can benefit patients between 40 and 50 years old, who have a slight drooping of the face,” comments the doctor.
The procedure can cover the entire face
BAPS emphasizes that a facelift is a surgical procedure performed to reverse the signs of aging on the face, with the aim of reducing wrinkles, facial folds and sagging skin, giving the face a more youthful and rested appearance.
“The operation can concern both the entire face and a specific area that causes greater discomfort to the patient,” underlines the plastic surgeon.

He adds that for complementary neck treatment, you may or may not need scarring and cuts behind the ear.
“It’s important to remember that the procedure does a deep plane dissection, a true deep plane endoscopically, it’s not just a subcutaneous dissection. The release of facial ligaments in the deep planes occurs, repositioning layers of fat and muscle,” emphasizes Jair Maciel.
