Problems that originate in oral health can spread through the bloodstream and impact the entire body, especially the heart.
There are several ways to take care of your heart health, both with a balanced diet and regular exercise. However, what few people know is that oral health can have a direct impact on the heart.

In other words, ensuring correct tooth brushing not only promotes the general well-being of the body, but is also linked to a vital balance throughout the system.
This is because problems in a specific area of the body can trigger repercussions in other regions. Inflammation of the gums, for example, can be a precursor to heart complications.
What is the relationship between oral health and heart health?
Dental specialist, Dr. Marcos Laboissiere, CEO of Ilo Odontologia in Brasilia, highlights the direct connection between gum health and the cardiovascular system. According to him, bleeding gums are an indication to take into account.
“There is the possibility that an untreated condition, such as gingivitis, can progress to more advanced periodontitis. As a result, the inflammation spreads to structures such as the bone, periodontal ligament and root cementum. Such development significantly increases the risk of heart disease and lung problems.” reports Dr. Marcos.
According to him, gingival tissues have a vascularization and innervation system and inadequate oral hygiene practices favor bacterial proliferation in these tissues.
“These microorganisms have the ability to enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body, affecting remote organs such as the heart (possibly contributing to the onset or worsening of cardiac abnormalities) and joints,” he explains.
Prevention
In this context, taking care of oral health is even more important. The specialist recommends the adoption of scrupulous local hygiene practices, including the correct use of dental floss and an adequate brushing technique.
It also highlights the importance of using dental floss so that it wraps around the tooth, sliding it between each tooth until it reaches the base of the gums, and then proceeds to remove it.
