Pets and the Danish Chamber Orchestra give a rare live performance of ‘Sinfonia da Caça’
On one memorable night at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, music found an unusual companion: talented dogs.
Sophus, Cookie and Sica, selected after a rigorous audition, learned the art of barking on command and gave a rare live performance Symphony of the Hunt In Leopold Mozartfather of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with the Danish Chamber Orchestra.
The desire to perform this particular performance had existed for a long time, as the orchestra’s general director Andreas Vetö revealed: “We will perform Leopold Mozart’s ‘Hunting Symphony’ because it has been a wish of our conductor Adam Fischer for several years already, because it may include the element of participating dogs.”
Preparation for this performance involved intense rehearsals, during which the dogs’ proud owners, including Cookie’s owner, Helle Lauvring, brought treats to motivate the dogs to bark on cue.
“I think if I were to be there by myself, I think I would be nervous, but all the attention is on her, and you know she’s the star. I’m with her with all the goodies,” Helle Lauvring said.
A Symphony of the Hunt by Leopold Mozart is composed of three movements, in the last the hunt begins to take place, accompanied by gunshots and then the dogs barking around the scene come into action.
On its Instagram profile, the Danish Chamber Orchestra celebrated the astonishing impact of its recent performance on social media and shared plans to further expand its concert programme.
“Our Haydn Festival with dogs on stage has attracted international interest and fascinated journalists from all over the world. We will soon play concerts at the Musikverein in Graz in Austria, as well as visiting South Tyrol and Salzburg,” they wrote.
