Architect Rafael Mirza’s designs for CASACOR Rio de Janeiro 2023 mix new and vintage with the use of natural stones
In his second participation in CASACOR Rio de Janeiro, the architect Rafael Mirza is responsible for bringing the Bedroom and Linen Room: environments unite stones AND wood in a project that adds functionality and elegance. The proposal was to create spaces that connected to each other – through colors and elements present in both – and that provided relaxation to those visiting the exhibition.

In the corridor that gives access to the bedrooms, the idea was to design a transition area from the stair hall to the living area. “As with all my projects, the use of natural elements is very present here, but with the idea of being neutral”, explains Rafael. In this case, the use of wood, cement coating AND velvet effect paint they are responsible for bringing this natural atmosphere.
In the clothing department the same cement is used, creating unity. However, one detail stands out: a vertical garden brings freshness to the project. In combination with these elements there is also the strong presence of natural stonesAS Carrara marble and emerald quartzite.
In the carpentry, the architect uses a whiter than usual melamine, which he brings visual comfort to the environment and creates a contrast with the texture of natural stones.
“From the choice of wood tone and chandeliers in the lobby to the photos used in the linens, everything was thought out to create a balance between new and vintage, preserving the history of the place and bringing a new atmosphere,” he says.
“In theory, wardrobes tend to be simply functional, but for our space we created a more welcoming and inviting concept,” he explains. “We use screenshots with records made by Felipe Alvarez and Ari Kaye and the iconic Oscar armchair, created by Sérgio Rodrigues. These elements, together with rich details and noble elements, create a new concept for this type of environment”, concludes Rafael.
