Simone Ribeiro, 53, lost the sight in his right eye due to incorrect use of contact lenses. In an interview with the Metropoles newspaper, the singer revealed that she had bad habits with the object: “I slept with the lens, I spent five months using the same contact lens. I dripped the saline solution directly into the eye and it didn’t I paid attention to the gravity of it all.

“One day I woke up and my right eye was green. Then it turned white. Having difficulty seeing, I went to the emergency room at Hospital de Base. There the doctor said there was a risk of replacing my eye with a prosthesis,” she said.

At this point Simone was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer and was treated with antibiotics for 5 months to eradicate the infection. The eye was preserved, but she lost her sight.

“The ulcer was completely healed, but I am now on the waiting list for a cornea transplant. Unfortunately the race is moving very slowly, but I have faith that I will make it,” she says.

According to the Ministry of Health, in 2022 alone, almost 14 thousand corneal replacement operations were performed in Brazil. The rejection rate of the procedure, however, is high – about 15% – and, even if recipients get a new operation, the odds decrease with each transplant.

  • Don’t spend too much time with the accessory in your eyes.
