Fans of the epic saga about the adventurous life of the landowning Dutton family are on one side impatient and on the other sad. The circumstances are such that their favorite show “Yellowstone” will apparently be closed after the fifth season – in November 2023 the episodes will be released, which, as the showrunners promise, will put an end to this story. Is there any hope for a sequel? Here’s what we know so far.
As always, John Dutton, that is, Kevin Costner, is responsible for everything. For the star of the 90s, the series became an excellent springboard for a comeback, and the actor and his lawyers did an excellent job: signing a contract for the main role in Yellowstone, the former “bodyguard” obtained the most favorable conditions for himself. The rather rare clause on the “moral death” of the character is particularly interesting: it means that without the coordination with Costner, no twist could have appeared in the storyline of the series that would have taken John Dutton out of the game. Kevin who had to decide how his character was going to die and veto the script if he deemed this option inappropriate.
But in the end, the conflict between Costner and the management of Yellowstone did not happen because John was killed one way or another depending on the scenario (in the world of the successful neo-western, he is still alive and well). Kevin all summer – through lawyers, of course! – argued with Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the series. The actor was outraged that the series’ production schedule was not coordinated with his work on the Civil War saga Horizon. The interpreter of the role of John even announced it. that he plans to sue Yellowstone for compensation.

This would have mixed up all the cards, because the production of the fifth season was divided into two stages precisely because of difficulties with Kevin, Paramount managed to announce the end of the series, and information about a deal with Matthew McConaughey also appeared . It has been reported that the Oscar winner has accepted the offer to play the next Dutton in the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off, the events of which will continue the story of the original series.
