Passalacqua, in Italy, was at the top of ‘The World’s 50 Best Hotels’; see more details about hosting
Last Tuesday (19th) the list of the 50 best hotels in the world was published. Brazil entered the ranking with Roosewood São Paulo, an accommodation located in the Bela Vista region, near Paulista Avenue, in the country’s financial capital. But who won first prize? The 50 best hotels in the world of 2023 were the Italians, with Passalacqua.
In northern Italy the hotel costs 8,000 euros per night, the equivalent of almost R$ 42,000 (not counting taxes and fees). Located on Lake Como, the site is right in the middle of an 18th-century village and was the former estate of composer Vincenzo Bellini.

The hotel has 24 rooms and the accommodation has been distributed in three spaces: in the main villa, in the palace and in the Casa do Lago. The business was founded by the De Santis family, who also own the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, another 5 hotel stars near Lake Como.
The interior of Passalacqua’s accommodation features gilded sculptures and mirrors, portraits and works from centuries past, as well as chandeliers and lamps worth a fortune. Outside the hotel guests can enjoy over seven hectares of gardens and a swimming pool.
The main suite at Passalacqua is the Bellini Suite. It measures 250 m2, can accommodate up to 4 people and overlooks the lake. There, a music room (where Bellini often plays the piano) contrasts with the landscape.
As for food, guests can also expect upscale and gourmet Italian cuisine. According to the hotel’s website, the spaghetti with tomato sauce is also out of the ordinary and served in a golden mold.

The prize
This is the first edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels ranking. Europe dominates in the top 50 with almost half of those selected. Asia follows, with 18 chosen. Brazil also appears in the ranking that evaluates boutique hotels around the world, as previously mentioned.
The list was coordinated by a group of academics from nine regions of the world. They led 580 voting judges, who voted for the best accommodations across the planet. These judges answered questions about their seven best hotel stays over the past two years. According to the classification organization, the entire process took place confidentially.
