Sao Paulo records five deaths and 102% increase in visits due to heat effects in 2023


There were 302 consultations compared to 154 in 2022; the data comes from the State Secretariat of Health and takes into account the first seven months of the year

OR State of Sao Paulo recorded a 102.5% increase in outpatient care and hospitalizations caused by heat exposure in the first seven months of the year, compared to the same period in 2022. There were five deaths in the period. The data were released by the State Department of Health this Friday, the 22nd, a week in which much of Brazil faces a wave of Heat.

According to the data in the dossier, in 2023 there were 312 services provided compared to 154 in the same period last year. People over 60, children under four and people with cognitive disabilities are the most affected and fall into the risk group. This audience has a reduced ability to sense or communicate when they are thirsty and to regulate their body temperature.
