How to consciously use the 13th? The expert explains

Find out how to best use your 13th paycheck to organize your finances and start next year with up-to-date bills

With three months left in 2023, it’s time to organize your budget to start next year with fewer financial worries. For those who receive the 13th salarythis money can help pay off outstanding debts.

According to Thiago Martello, founder of Martello EF, the 13th salary is often spent without planning. However, to consciously use this value, you need to take into account your current financial situation.

“There are bills that will always exist, such as school fees, IPVA, IPTU, insurance, etc. They are there every year, but many people think of them as extra bills, one-off expenses. So, don’t prepare for the payment,” he states.

So, how to use the 13th?

The ideal, according to the financial educator, is this annual accounts are part of fixed expenses which occur every year, just as the 13th of the salary must be part of the annual income.

“All this must be taken into account so that the person can plan the annual budget with more serenity. Otherwise there is a risk of spending the thirteenth on gifts and having to ask for a loan to cover the bills”, advises Martello.

In this way, explains the expert, it will be easier to know if there will be anything left over from the 13th salary. “If the person does the calculation and still has the thirteenth in his pocket, then he will be able to evaluate more freely how to use it,” he says.

So you can use one part to invest and the other to buy, for example, end-of-year gifts. “The point is that to start the year with your finances in order you need to tackle the obligations before the fun. This way, the person may stop having fun by the thirteenth, but will have a much calmer year,” she concludes .
