‘Paladar’ has visited the house first hand and tells you everything you will find there; watch
After all the mystery created around chef Renata Vanzetto’s new business – enigmas began appearing on social media in mid-August – finally, on September 20, Mercearia Maravilha, which sells “food and things”, opened its doors.
It is located there, next to Muquifo, a restaurant next to MeGusta, which is under Ema and next to Matilda, which, in turn, is next to Miado, which is under Mico. Along with Mé, which hides in MeGusta’s basement, MM is now the group’s eighth house installed in that part of Bela Cintra.
Returning to the puzzles, one of them said that in the past, around the 1950s, refrigerators resembled large display cases and that, to identify them in shops, the manufacturer Kelvinator placed ceramic penguins on them.
Penguin? Refrigerator that resembles furniture? Well, the first one became the cute mascot of the grocery store. And the refrigerator, the big star: imagine if Renata, as quick as she was, placed a white and opaque piece of garbage, the kind that every grocery store has, in the center of her little shop. She found a way to personalize the refrigerator, which was covered with pieces of old furniture. She was charming.
On the shelves are popular sauces in the chef’s restaurants, such as the miso and lemon sauce (R$ 35), which enhances Matilda’s okra, the Manetti sauce (R $ 60), a recipe from chef law’s partner and brother-in-law , made with cream and milk, parmesan and paprika, which is served with spaghetti from Muquifo, Asian tamarind and sesame oil sauce from Ema (R$40), and coriander sauce (R$39), because it is Renata, it is must have cilantro.
There are also butters, such as tomato butter (R$37), preserves, such as marinated artichokes (R$15; 100g) and golden courgette butter with mint and lemon (R$12; 100g). To sweeten it, nothing more, nothing less than the ridiculous cream (R$ 46), the one used in the cake of the same name and which has become a story of the chef on social media. Oh, there’s also a spoonful of brigadeiro (R$53).
But Mercearia Maravilha is not just homemade food. There you will also find products from partner suppliers – such as artisanal sausages from Pirineus and preserves from the A.mar project – and even industrialized items that can’t be found anywhere.
On the “things” front, the highlight are the food-themed ceramics, all designed by Renata. There is a plate shaped like a fried egg, a spoon that imitates mushrooms, salt shakers, oil pans, butter dishes and so on. That is to say, refrigerator penguins are also on sale.
