The youngest child was born weighing 635 grams and all remain in intensive care with ventilatory support

After coming into the world by cesarean section last Sunday (10/1), the brothers Theo, Matteo, Lucca, Henry, Eloá and Maytê They remain in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the São Bernardo Apart Hospital, in Colatina, city of Espírito Santo. Last night, a team of professionals from the institute and their father, Magdiel Costa, spoke to the press about the state of health of the sextuplets and their mother, Quézia Romualdo.

“From the beginning of the prenatal care, we knew it would be a delicate birth. But everything went as expected, without complications.and it happened very calmly”, said obstetrician Thiago Martinelli. The operation took place at the 27th week of pregnancy and, therefore, children are considered extremely premature – the largest was born weighing 1.30 kg and the smallest weighed 635 grams.

“Due to their gestational age, they are considered seriously ill babies and we know that many complications can occur. Today they are all stable as expected and require ventilatory support and receive all the care they need. So far they have had no unexpected complications,” commented Bianca de Medeiros, pediatrician and coordinator of the neonatal intensive care unit.

Since children’s development is individual, each increase tends to happen on different dates, but it should still take some time. “If everything goes well, it will be about three months of hospital stay,” Bianca said.
