The City of Ilhabela, on the North Coast of São Paulo, suspended the band’s fee of almost R$50,000 Condom after a controversy during the show last Friday night (29). The bandwas part of the attractions of Flashback Festivalthe last event commemorating the city’s anniversary – which ends this Sunday (1st).
The controversy surrounds the moment in which the band’s lead singer, Marcelo Nova, recites an excerpt from the song ‘Sílvia’ during the performance. The lyrics, composed in the 1980s, say that “every man who knows what he wants, picks up a stick to beat his wife”.
The excerpt from the band’s show gained intense repercussion on social media after being shared by the Minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, who criticized the artist. In the video, the vocalist Marcelo Nova He says it’s just a joke. See the moment below:
My total repudiation of the lead singer of the band Camisa de Vênus, who yesterday, in Ilhabela, advocated violence against women. Don’t joke about such a serious subject. You see? @CidaMulheres @silviolual pic.twitter.com/8qTAK2JpZM

In a note released by g1the Municipality of Ilhabela regretted the stance of the band’s lead singer Condom and that, “as soon as the incoherent conduct was noticed, the band’s production was notified and the show was closed”, saying that it does not condone any type of violence, especially violence against women.
The administration also stated that, as soon as it became aware of the situation, Mayor Toninho Colucci (PL) “determined the suspension of payment of the band’s fee and will demand a retraction from the artist, under penalty of not receiving it”.
What Marcelo Nova says
In an interview with g1 on Rede Vanguarda, the band’s lead singer Condom, Marcelo Nova, stated that he was surprised by the controversy and that there was no negative reaction from the public during the show. He also highlighted that the song “Silvia” has been a hit for the band for decades.
It’s a f***ing hit, a huge hit and everyone has been singing it for 37 years. So, out of nowhere, this kind of problem? It hadn’t happened yet. O Shirt It has a trajectory, obviously, a trajectory full of controversies, turmoil, and… and it’s good that it is that way. We were not born to take orders from anyone, nor to conform to a certain type of circumstance. But offending people, offending women, gratuitously? […] It has nothing to do with aggression. Is a joke. “Silvia” is a joke”
Regarding the possible cancellation of the fee of almost R$50 thousand, the singer of Condom said he had not yet been notified by Ilhabela City Hall. “I don’t know, I just found out about it. Yeah, anyway.”
The vocalist said he only found out about the controversy this Sunday, after returning to São Paulo.
“We all have to understand that in the audience there are people of different ages, of different age groups, as I said. Culture, education, personality. Something that may be fun for one person may not be so much for another. When I say that Silvia is a joke, it’s like a parrot joke. Do you know what it’s like? The guy who doesn’t like parrot jokes is not a good character. Do you understand? That’s it. That’s it. Silvia is a parrot joke. It could be in good taste ? Yes. Could it be in bad taste? Yes. But it’s just a joke. Nothing more than that.”
