Biomédica explains how some details in using the product are important to avoid putting your health at risk
Waxing is a popular alternative among men and women who want hair-free skin for an extended period. In addition to the advantage of durability, this method offers other advantages, such as effective hair removal from the roots and a lower propensity to irritation.
However, its incorrect use can cause dermatological complications, warns Daniela Pontes, biomedical specialist in biosafety. “Waxing is an effective technique, but it is essential to follow some simple rules to avoid dermatological complications,” she explains.
Among the serious errors that can occur during waxing, the expert highlights some of the most common. Watch!
1. Inadequate hygiene
Lack of hygiene when preparing the skin or materials used for waxing can cause bacterial infections, including folliculitis. Therefore, proper cleaning is essential to minimize these risks.
“It is important that professionals keep the materials sterilized and sanitized, as well as carrying out skin antisepsis to reduce the microbial load before waxing. Wooden spatulas must be used exclusively on the client and thrown away after use, as well as the wax, to avoid any type of contamination”, warns Daniela Pontes.
2. Wrong temperature
Heating the wax to an excessively high temperature can burn the skin, causing blemishes. On the other hand, using a product that is too cold can make the process ineffective and painful.
“Burning or discomfort at the moment of hair removal it is something that can cause the client to give up on the method. Therefore it is important for waxers to ensure that the wax is at an appropriate temperature,” he explains.
3. Reuse the wax
Daniela Pontes warns that reusing wax can lead to cross-contamination and infection, so it should be discarded after each use.
“As with wooden spatulas, the use of the wax must also be exclusive to the customer. By immersing the spatula in the container containing the product, placing it in contact with the skin and repeating this procedure, the wax can be contaminated with some type of bacteria or fungi. Therefore it is important to use the product individually,” he explains.

4. Use homemade wax
No type of product processing is permitted in the work spaces. beauty, as this can cause problems. “The industrialization of the products is rigorous. There is control on the quality of raw materials, rigor in the process. And the products are tested and validated. Homemade wax can cause harm to customers, so it should not be used,” says Daniela Ponti.
The specialist underlines the importance of seeking a qualified professional to perform waxing, respecting hygiene and safety guidelines. “It is essential that people are aware of the risks and take precautions to preserve skin health during the waxing process,” she concludes.
