Duda Beat claims to have identified similarities with Emicida in ‘Magia Amarela’

‘Magia Amarela’, a partnership between Duda Beat and Juliette for Bauducco, was accused of plagiarizing Emicida’s AmarElo project; in a note, Duda’s team claims to have identified parallels

Duda Beat spoke publicly after accusations of plagiarism for the song “Magia Amarela”recorded in partnership with Juliette for a brand campaign Bauducco. Released this Tuesday (17), the track soon received criticism for uncredited similarities to the project Yellowin Emicidal – including by Evandro Fiótiproducer, musician and brother of Emicida.

“You know appropriation and everything we talk about ethics? So, this market has very little,” said the artist ironically, in one of the statements made on his social networks.

In the early afternoon of this Wednesday (18), the Duda Beat team published a note on social media, which was soon deleted. In it, the artist’s team says that Duda was hired by Bauducco through Gallery Agency for the ‘Magia Amarela’ campaign, but the Pernambuco singer had no creative involvement ‘in the design of the campaign, visual identity, lyrics or musical production of the advertising track/jingle’.

The note also states that Duda’s team identified parallels with Emicida’s project, but that, “from the first contact between the agency and the artist’s office, still in the negotiation phase, the name of Felipe VassĆ£o (one of the authors of the musical project and the song AmarElo) was mentioned in the scope of the campaign as the author of the commercial track (which did not yet exist and did not even have the name ‘Magia Amarela’)”, reinforcing that the “exclusion of VassĆ£o from the team of authors of the jingle was NOT informed by the client/agency throughout the process”.

After a few hours, the singer’s clarification was deleted from her social networks.

Felipe VassĆ£o, in turn, also published a short statement on his social networks, in which he says: “I have no involvement with the new song ‘Magia Amarela’ by Juliette and Duda Beat.

“The artist Duda Beat was hired by the Bauducco brand, through Agencia Galeria, to be one of the talents in the advertising campaign and performers of the song ‘Magia Amarela’ alongside Juliette. However, we have come to inform you that there is no creative participation from the artist in the design of the campaign, visual identity, lyrics or musical production of the advertising track/jingle.

When he received the lyrics of the song to record, Duda and the team identified the similarity with the artistic concept of the AmarElo project, by Emicida and Lab Fantasma. However, since the first contact between the agency and the artist’s office, still in the negotiation phase, the name of Felipe VassĆ£o (one of the authors of the musical project and the song AmarElo) was mentioned in the scope of the campaign as the author of the commercial track (which is still did not exist and did not even have the name “Yellow Magic”).

The exclusion of VassĆ£o from the team of authors of the jingle was NOT informed by the client/agency throughout the process. In this way, it was understood that there was consent for the production of the jingle by the creators of the original AmarElo project. However, today, October 18, there was a movement of claims across social media that the authors of the AmarElo project were usurped of their intellectual property in the ‘Yellow Magic’ campaign.

This information surprises Duda Beat and the team, since we are expressly against any evidence of plagiarism or appropriation of creative ideas without the consent of their legal authors.

Duda Beat reiterates its commitment to transparency and valuing the professionals involved in its projects. She and her entire team deeply regret the damage caused by this situation and emphasizes that, given these new facts, her legal team will take the appropriate measures to guarantee the artistic and ethical integrity of her participation in the track.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and remain available for any further clarification.
Yours sincerely,
Duda Beat Team”.

Juliette takes a stand

With the note, Duda Beat joins Juliette, who earlier also published a note from her press office:

“We inform you that the song “Magia Amarela” is part of an advertising campaign and that Juliette was hired as one of the performers for this audiovisual work. The singer’s team is in contact with the contractors responsible for creating and producing the campaign for further clarification. “
