Is training on the treadmill enough to lose weight? Personal answers

Discover the importance of this method to enhance your goals

Losing weight is the goal of many Brazilians, which undoubtedly requires dedication, consistency and daily commitment. A good diet with daily exercise is among the alternatives for those who want to have an ideal physical condition. Yet there are those who have doubts about the importance of some proposals, for example: is training on the treadmill enough to lose weight?

Training on the treadmill is not enough to lose weight

“It is not enough. This goes against common sense. The fact is this: for weight loss to really happen, you need to be in a calorie deficit, on average 7 thousand kcal to lose 1 kg of fat. On average, the treadmill will burn from 200 to 400 kcal in 30 minutes of training”, he tells Sport Life exclusively personal trainer Caio Signoretti.

In other words, everything can vary depending on the intensity of the training and, in addition, the person’s gender, weight, height and metabolic rate must be taken into account. Factors that however illustrate the inefficiency of the treadmill for those engaged with this proposition.

“So, already from this basic calculation you can see that the treadmill is not very effective when we want to lose weight. In fact, a person can lose weight without having to do a treadmill or any type of aerobic exercise. He can lose weight simply doing nutritional re-education”, highlights the physical educator.

More guidelines for staying slim

Signoretti also underlines that when we talk about weight loss at the base of the “pyramid” there must be bodybuilding training. In this way, aerobic exercise will appear in your “perspective” only as a complement.

“When a person does bodybuilding and manages to acquire muscle mass, the body spends a lot of energy to produce this mass. Therefore, it tends to increase the basal metabolic rate. Even if little, this increase in metabolism is due to weight training and mass building The muscle mass associated with the caloric deficit that the diet will bring causes you to lose weight”, he guarantees.

Caio also concludes that he usually prescribes to his students an aerobic workout two or three times a week for those who want to lose weight, lasting an average of 20 minutes. Pace is also another criterion mentioned.

“The point I apply is that the person attributes intensity to aerobics. Because it is not enough to do aerobics simply for the sake of doing it. Intensity is what will govern. It is worth doing aerobic training, which promotes an effort moderate to extensive compared to a one-hour aerobic session, with a low intensity of effort.”
