Muscle hypertrophy prevents cardiovascular disease, cancer and more

The study showed that muscle hypertrophy along with reduced muscle loss is the key to longevity

This was discovered by a recent study conducted by a scientist from Auburn University in the United States Muscle hypertrophy and reducing the loss of muscle mass can be the key to longevity and the prevention of serious diseases such as, for example, cardiovascular problems, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, which are part of the so-called Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (non-communicable diseases) .

The experiment demonstrated that weight training, whether via equipment or using your own body weight, stimulates a number of physiological mechanisms in the body that generate muscle growth (hypertrophy) and prevent muscle loss. Find out more!

Study on the benefits of muscle hypertrophy

According to the study published in the scientific journal Physiological Reviews, the stimuli generated by muscular hypertrophy are able to generate high protein synthesis, which contributes to improving the quality of life and well-being, also increasing longevity and preventing the diseases that most affect the population.

“Research shows that it is essential to understand the methods that influence muscle hypertrophy, resulting from resistance training. This knowledge helps indicate the most effective treatments, aimed at preserving or increasing muscle mass, as well as indicating the nutrition necessary for hypertrophy”, he explains Nozelmar Junioruniversity professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology and Resistance Training, bodybuilding and product manager at Bluefit.

“Furthermore, the study shows that the benefits of muscle hypertrophy and the reduction of muscle mass loss go beyond aesthetics, since they are allies in promoting longevity and preventing the diseases that most affect the population,” adds the professional.

According to the Ministry of Health, so-called non-communicable diseases and conditions (NCDs), which include cardiovascular problems, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, along with accidents and violence, cast a shadow on the health scenario.

In 2019 in Brazil, 54.7% of deaths recorded in the country were found to be the result of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), while 11.5% were caused by diseases. Alarmingly, Brazil witnessed over 730,000 deaths due to non-communicable diseases in the same year. Of these, 308,511 (41.8%) occurred prematurely, highlighting the urgency of effective actions to prevent and control these silent diseases that afflict our population.

“Globally, chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent the main causes of mortality. For this reason, research indicates weight training as an ally in the fight against these diseases and in promoting the longevity of the population, as well as represent a potential resource for public policies for the prevention of diseases “that most affect the population”, underlines Nozelmar Junior.
