Meta, owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is facing the biggest lawsuit in its history. In fact, there are 42 state-led lawsuits in the United States. The lawsuits allege that Meta deceived its users about the harm its platforms can cause to young audiences.
The states allege that the company has placed features on its platforms that make children addictive. And also that it advertised its products to appeal to children under 13, which is against US law and goes against Facebook and Instagram’s terms of use.
As a result, Meta’s shares have already plummeted. The market fear is that Meta will have to pay large compensations and change its business, which could lead to a drop in advertising revenue.

Some experts estimate that Meta will most likely lose these trials, which are based on documents leaked by a former Meta employee, as I explain in this video.
